As part of this commitment to excellence and transformation, we are seeking a Chief Financial Officer
(CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and ensure the Council’s long-term financial sustainability.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Organisational Performance, the Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for leading the Council’s financial strategy, corporate accounting, procurement, and revenue functions.
This senior leadership role will oversee financial planning and risk management while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements. The CFO will provide strategic financial advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Councilors, ensuring sound decision-making that supports the Council’s long-term goals.
This role will also oversee corporate accounting, revenue collection, and procurement services, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and compliance. A key focus will be on developing and implementing long-term financial strategies to guarantee the financial sustainability of the organisation. Additionally, the CFO will drive financial and business improvements by implementing innovative solutions that enhance financial performance and operational efficiency. Leading financial risk management, internal controls, and treasury functions will also be critical to safeguarding Council assets and resources.
About the successful applicant
This role requires a strategic financial leader with the ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, auditors, and financial institutions, while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance within the Finance team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in financial management, accounting, and treasury operations within a complex organisation, along with proven leadership in driving financial strategy, governance, and risk management.
A deep understanding of legislative regulations and accounting standards, particularly in the public sector, is essential, as is expertise in budgeting, financial planning, and executive-level reporting. Strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to coach and develop teams are critical. A tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, along with CPA or CA accreditation, is required.
