Public Sector People are recruiting for an experienced AO6 Senior Finance Officer on behalf of a State Government Department. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Finance Officer to play a key role in supporting the delivery of financial accounting, analysis, strategies, technical advice, and support services. About the Role: As a Senior Finance Officer, you will be involved in a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks, including contributing to financial reporting, providing expert advice, conducting financial analysis, and ensuring the integrity of our financial systems. You will work closely with clients, management, staff, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure the department meets its financial obligations.
Key Duties and Accountabilities: - Contribute to the planning, coordination, and completion of the department’s financial reporting obligations, including:
- End-of-month financial reporting process
- Annual financial statements and whole-of-Government reports
- Maintaining and enhancing the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers
- Provide accurate and timely expert/specialist advice to clients, management, and staff.
- Undertake research, analysis, and investigation into financial management issues and implement effective solutions.
- Assist in maintaining controls over Assets, Liabilities, Revenue, and Expenditure, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions and timely general ledger account reconciliations.
- Compile accurate, timely, and reliable financial data, and prepare and present data with analysis and commentary for various reporting purposes.
- Develop and maintain positive, constructive relationships with clients, auditors, other stakeholders, and management.
- Contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures and the development and maintenance of administrative support systems that assist the department in meeting its obligations under the Government’s financial management framework.
- Maintain contemporary knowledge of prescribed legislation, accounting standards, and associated government policies.
About you: While accounting qualifications are not mandatory; the possession of a relevant degree and CPA/CA status is considered to be highly desirable given the technical nature of this role.
The ideal candidate will possess strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and a solid understanding of fundamental financial concepts.
